Mission Statement: What we're about...
Founded in 1994, the African American Film Society of Missouri promotes film a a cultural art form among African Americans throughout the state, by sponsoring workshops and seminars, and by aiding the creative development of aspiring African American filmmakers.
By providing these programs for our community we hope to inspire, motivate and stimulate a keen interest in making films and supporting the industry. Thereby ensuring a place for African Americans and others in an industry that does not necessarily tell our stories from our perspective. We hope to share stories of the African American, the African, and Caribbean Diaspora through film and support financially, culturally, and creatively of all local filmmakers. This organization was born out of that need.
